voice: laryngeal anatomy Flashcards
Hyoid parts
Corpus
Lesser Cornu
Greater Cornu
Adjacent structures
Trachea
Hyoid bone
Cartilages
Thyroid, cricoid, arytenoid, corniculate, cuneiform
Cricoid Joints
Cricothyroid, Cricoarytenoid
Cricothyroid joint
Inferior Cornu of thyroid articulates with cricoid, thyroid pivots forward and down, allowing VF to lengthen, thin, stretch, tense
Cricoarytenoid joint
Allows arytenoids to pivot, so VF cab abduct or adduct
Arytenoid cartilage
VF extend from vocal process to just below thyroid notch, pivots: vocal process moves laterally, muscular process moves posteriorly
Corniculate cartilage
On top of arytenoids
Cuneiform cartilage
In aryepiglottic folds
Extrinsic Muscles of larynx
Suprahyoids: geniohyoid, anterior digastric, posterior digastric, stylohyoid
Infrahyoids: thyrohyoid, omohyoid, sternohyoid, sternothyroid
Mylohyoid
Geniohyoid
Origin- mandibular symphysis
Insert- corpus
Fn- hyoid forward and up
Anterior digastric
Origin- mandibular symphysis
Insert- intermediate tendon
Fn- hypoid up and forward
Posterior digastric
Origin-mastoid
Insert- intermediate tendon
Fn- elevates up and back
Stylohyoid
Origin- styloid process of temporal bone, behind ear
Insert- corpus of hyoid
Fn- hyoid up and back
Thyrohyoid
Origin- thyroid lamina
Insert- greater Cornu hyoid
Fn- mediated by supra hyoids: if both contract, THYROID is pulled up, if not, HYOID is pulled down
