What representations are shown through the “money” article?
Counter-typical representations of women. Showing power and independence. The topic of money and finances was historically a more manly topic as women didn’t work.
Describe the Cutex advert and the representations shown?
Image of women who is suggestively naked. The question “Are you women enough?” represents the idea that being “women” is about beauty, femininity and sexualization.
Describe the Imperial Leather advert and the representations being shown?
Image shows a young women caring for her child. Represents women as being caring, maternal and domestic. Article also mentions the idea of being “soft” and “gentle”.
Did the historical context of 1960’s reflect in the 1965 Vogue magazine?
In the 60’s women started having more power. The magazine struggled to reflect that change accordingly. Only the “money” article supports that historical change.
How are different socioeconomic groups represented?
The upper class (AB) is represented far more than the lower classes. Reflected through the complex language used, formal clothing shown and the talking of famous art work. The rich lifestyle is idolized and shown in an almost utopian way.
How is ethnicity represented in the set text of vogue?
White models are pictured wearing expensive clothes and large jewels. Representing them as high status. Their is a lack of ethnicity throughout the text, however when a person of ethnicity is shown they are working. Whilst the white model is having fun, looking free and happy.
