The stage area used for performance
Acting Space
the side area of the stage, not seen by the audience, which is used for entrances and exits
Wings
The area directly above the acting space and winds used to store scenery when not in use
Flies
All areas not in used for acting. This encompasses the wings, flies, green room, dressing rooms and scene shop
Backstage
A waiting room just off the wings where the actors wait while not on stage
Green Room
The area used to construct the various set pieces
Scene Shop
An extension at the front of the stage used for added acting space. Sometimes encompassing the orchestra pit
Apron
A system of pulleys and counter weights used to lower and raise the scenery stored in the “flies”
Fly Rail
The frame of the stage
Proscenium Arch
The area where the audience is located usually includes the box office and lobby
House
Located at the front of the “house” the place where the tickets are purchased
Box Office
The area at the front of the acting space; including the apron
Down Stage
The area at the back of the acting space
Up stage
The area in the center of the acting space
Center Stage
The area to the left of the actor
Stage left
