Vocabulary Flashcards
Force
Any push or pull
Friction
The force that acts between the surface area of materials
Inertia
To remain at the constant state .
Mass is the measure of inertia.
Newton’s First Law (Law of Inertia)
Objects in motion tend to stay in motion, while objects at rest stay at rest. Unless it is changed by a net force exerted on it.
Kilograms (Kg)
Mass = Kg
Mass
Measure of object’s: Inertia, and matter (kg)
Weight
The force on a body due to the gravitational force of another body.
Weight = Newtons (N) = Kg • m/s^2 (in equation)
Weight depends on its location.
Newton
Force (Weight) = Newtons (N) = Kg • m/s^2
1 newton equals force applied to a 1 kilogram mass which equals to an acceleration of 1 meter per second squared.
Net Force and what happens
The combination of all the forces that act on an object. An object accelerates when a net force acts on it.
Support Force
Force that completely balances the weight of an object at rest to keep it at rest.
Normal Force
Is the support force exerted upon an object that is in contact with another stable object.
Ex: a book resting on the table’s surface, then the table is exerting an upward force on the book in order to support the weight of the book.
Person pushes on wall, wall pushes on person.
Equilibrium
A state of balance, in which the body on which no net force acts on it.
