Notes Flashcards
What causes friction?
Irregularities in the surface of objects that are touching. Even smooth surfaces have friction
Objects at rest?
Objects tend to stay at rest, will change if, and only if a force is applied.
Objects in Motion in space, with no force?
No force = object keeps on moving in a straight line.
Object tossed in space, a vacuum, will move forever due to inertia.
Newton’s First Law (Law of Inertia)
Objects in motion tend to stay in motion, while objects at rest stay at rest. Unless it is changed by a net force exerted on it.
More Mass of an Object, what happens
The more mass it has, the more its inertia is and force is in order to change its state of motion.
What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass- measure of amount of material(matter) in an object
Weight- measure of the gravitational force on the object.
Ex: earth: 10m/s^2
What is weight dependent on?
Location (for its gravitational force)
What is mass dependent on?
Amount of matter depends on the amount and kind of particles that make up the object.
Does not depend on its location.
Are Mass and weight proportional or inverse to each other?
They are proportional to each other but are not equal.
Objects in motion remain in motion if no ___________ forces act on them.
Unbalanced
Objects moving on earth
Move with earth, earth moves around the sun.
What happens to the object being flipped if you are traveling on transportation.
It moves as if the transport was at rest.
