Vocabulary Flashcards
Metazoan
a zoological group comprising the multicellular animals.
Protozoan
Any of numerous chiefly single-celled eukaryotic organisms, most of which move about freely and ingest food, including the amoebas, ciliates, flagellates, and apicomplexans. Protozoans along with certain algae, oomycetes, and some other groups make up the protists.
Radial Symmetry
part of an organism in which a vertical cut through the axis in any of two or more planes produces two halves that are mirror images of each other
blastula
hollow ball of cells
blastopore
indentation in hallow ball of cells
euocoelomate
lined cavity (humans have this)
acoelomate
no coelom, no body cavity (flat worms have this)
pseudoceolomate
have cavity, not lined (round worms)
Eucoelomate
Any of the animals with “true” coelom, which is characterized by a body cavity completely lined with a peritoneum that attaches to organs
deuterostomes
all cells are identical, if separated all parts will become new individual (identical twins)
protostomes
cells are pre-programmed developmental fate is fixed, cannot separate and survive
frontal plane
divides into dorsal and ventral halves
transverse
divides into dorsal and ventral halves
sagittal
divides into anterior and posterior halves
bilateral symmetry
divided into two mirrored haves
