Vocabulary Flashcards
A location which another location is compared.
Reference Point
An objects location.
Position
A change of position over time.
Motion
A measure of how fast something moves through a particular distance over a definite period of time. Speed is distance divided by time.
Speed
A speed in a specific direction.
Velocity
A quantity that has both size and direction.
Vector
The rate that velocity changes over time.
Acceleration
A push or pull; something that changes the motion of an object.
Force
The overall force acting on an object when all of the forces acting on it are combined.
Net Force
The resistance of an object to a change in speed or the direction of its motion.
Inertia
A scientific law stating that any object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion with the same velocity, unless acted on by an unbalanced force.
Newton’s First Law
A scientific law stating that the acceleration of an object increases with increased force and decreases increased mass.
Newton’s Second Law
Any force that keeps an object moving in a circle.
Centripetal Force
A scientific law stating that every time one object exerts a force on one object, the second object exerts a force that is equal in size and opposite in direction back on the first object.
Newton’s Third Law
