What is ceramics?
Objects made of clay, fired at a temperature of 1550 degrees F.
What is slip?
Slip is watered down substance used as glue to hold peices together.
What is slab built
Slab built is rooled out clay, cut into shapes, and joined together
What is a foot?
A foot is a carved out indention in the bottom of a wheel thrown peice.
What is bone dry?
Bone dry means that the clay has no visible moisture
What is coils?
Coils are long starnds of clay that are laid ontop of each other and joinded by blending.
What is dry footing?
Dry footing is when glaze is removed from the bottom of the peice before it gets fired.
What is leatherhard?
Leather hard is when the clay has a damp condition when its to firm to bend but soft enough to be carved.
What is wheel thrown?
Wheel thrown is a peice of clay placed on a potters wheel and shaped by compression while its in motion.
What is glaze?
Glaze is a material applied to ceramic peices before firing so it gets a glassy look.
What is firing?
Firing is when the clay is hardened and turned into glass by a high temperature.
What is plastic?
Plastic is clay easily bent.
What is a kiln?
Kiln is the furnace in which ceramics is fired in.
What is a banding wheel?
A banding wheel is a large tool used to carve a foot into the peice.
What is a bat?
A bat is. Plastic plate on which you use for the potters wheel and what you throw things on.
