Small projections on the surface of the tongue that help control food. In cats there also used for grooming
Papillae
The process of muscles contracting and relaxing. In the esophagus, it pushes food from the pharynx to the stomach. In the ureter, it empties into the bladder
Peristalsis
A condition in which muscles of the esophagus fail to contract
Megaesophagus
Part of the digestive process for non ruminants. When food enters the stomach, it’s exposed to digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid
Gastric juice
Located on the mucosa of the small intestine, interspersed with entrocytes; Goblet cells secretes mucus to lubricate the intestine and the food contained within it
Goblet cells
Proteins essential to the chemical digestion of food. Produced by glandular tissue including the salivary glands, stomach, and testing, and accessory organs, such as the pancreas
Enzymes
Organ that aids in the digestive process; compose mostly of clumps of glandular secretary tissue and tubules carrying the pancreatic digestive secretions to the small intestine
Pancreas
Stored in liver cells; acts as an energy supply when blood sugar levels become low
Glycogen
The cell division of reproductive cells. The result of meiosis is the formation of gametes or spermatazoa in males and ova in females
Meiosis
Process that result in the formation of the ova
Oogenesis
A muscular tube that connects the epididymis in the testes to the urethra in the male reproductive system
Vas deferens
