16
Q

non-renewable resource

A

a resource that can not be replenished or does so over a tremendous period of time

17
Q

nuclear fission

A

the process by which an atomic nucleus splits into two parts of similar mass, producing neutrons and tremendous amounts of energy

18
Q

nuclear fusion

A

the process by which two atomic nuclei combine at extremely high temperatures, making a heavier nucleus and releasing tremendous amounts of energy

19
Q

nucleus

A

the central region in which the protons and neutrons in an atom are stored, also a cell structure where a cell’s genetic material is stored

20
Q

ocean basin

A

a depression in Earth’s surface occupied by water

21
Q

organ

A

a structure composed of tissues specialized for a specific task in an organism

22
Q

organism

A

any living plant, animal or fungus that undergoes various vital processes necessary for life

23
Q

permeability

A

the degree by which a substance may be penetrated by liquid or gas

24
Q

pH

A

a symbol used to define the acidity or alkalinity of a substance

25
Q

phenotype

A

the sum of physical characteristics of an organism

26
Q

Law of Superposition

A

a principle stating that the bottom-most layer of a deposit is oldest, while age decreases as layers reach the surface

27
Q

ionic bond

A

A chemical bond between two atoms where a valence electron is transferred from one to the other, resulting in an attraction in opposite charges

28
Q

covalent bond

A

a chemical bond between to atoms sharing the same electron

29
Q

valence electrons

A

electrons that belong to the outermost energy level of an atom; they are the electrons involved in chemical bonding

30
Q

How to

draw an atom

A

first make the nucleus containing protons and neutrons, draw circles around it to for the number of energy levels, with dots on these for electrons, empty electron spots should be blank circles.

The amount of protons and electrons is equal to the atomic number, while you find the number of neutrons by subtracting the rounded mass number by the atomic number, or protons.
