Rules or expectations that are set by society. (how people should behave in a group or community)

Fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions
Ex: religion
Anomie
Not understanding the norms and values created by society leading to “deviant behaviors” these people don’t have a sense of social belonging
Ex: prisoners leaving prison
Social Order
The way society works together to maintain stability and the status que
Ex: government
Beliefs
Trusting and accepting that a statement is true of that something exists
Ex: higher power
Scientific Method
A method of studying and investing social phenomena. Uses several steps which help scientists explain and understand behaviors and processes
Positivism
An approach that focuses on empirical evidence and scientific methods to study society and the laws
Capitalism
An economic system-based o private ownership having control of their own production and profit
Culture
A set of shared values, beliefs, and food amongst a set group
Primary Socialization
when a person learns basic human actions usually learned because of family
Secondary Socialization
When someone learns the norms and behaviors within a bigger section
Social Change
When human interactions relationships, and behavior patterns charge over the course of time
Weberian Theory
Explains how class, status, and power all contribute to a person’s position in a society
Value Consensus
A mutual agreement among a set of people about what is important or valuable
Ex: the Yalta conference
Traditional Society
A society that focuses on past traditional values instead of future ones
Ex: Amish Society
