Applying laws.
Justice System
The institutions and procedures for for applying laws in a society.
Legislation
Laws created through the Legislation process
Criminal Code
Laws that define how certain criminals should be treated and sentenced.
Defense
Trying to prove that the accused is innocent
Prosecution
Trying to prove that the accused is guilty.
Sequester
Remove from contact.
Criminal Record
A permanent record of breaking the law, which is public information. A criminal record can bar you from some jobs, volunteer positions, and travel to other countries.
Jury
A group of people who debate and vote on whether or not the accused is guilty or innocent.
Sentence
A consequence for a crime, such as prison. The punishment is determined by the courthouse.
Rehabilitate
To install positive behaviors and attitudes.
