Anthropomorphism

Biblical Theology
Looks at doctrines according to the books of the Bible; Attempts to summarize and restate the teaching of a Biblical text or of a Biblical author without imposing any modern categories of thought on the text
Canon
“Standard” or “rule”; closely associated with the collection of books included within the Christian Bible

Heresy
Any teaching that is rejected by the Christian community because it is contrary to Scripture; it claims to be Christian and scriptural but has been rejected by the church as sub-Christian or antiscriptural
Historical Theology
Knows history behind Scripture and doctrine; Seeks to understand and delineate how the church interpreted Scripture and developed doctrine throughout history from the time of the apostles to present
Inerrancy
The idea that Scripture is completely free from error
Infallibility
Being incapable of failing to accomplish a predetermined purpose; The Bible will not fail in its ultimate purpose of revealing God and the way of salvation to humans
Inspiration
The work of the Holy Spirit enabled the human authors of the Bible to record what God desired to have written in the Scriptures
Metanarrative
The idea that there is an overarching, all-embracing story of humankind into which all the more particular narratives fit
Metaphysics
The philosophical exploration into the ultimate nature of reality lying beyond the merely physical
Monism
Allows for no distinction between God and creation
Monotheism
The belief in one God
Orthodoxy
Right thinking; “Right praise” or “right belief”; consistence in belief and worship with the Christian faith

Plenary Inspiration
God is the ultimate author of the Bible; He gave the authors the concepts and ideas and guided them as they wrote Scripture
Progressive Revelation
“Moving forward”; belief that God’s self-disclosure forms a progression from the OT era to the NT era
Prolegomenon
First word; preface/forward; introduces and interprets an extended work
Revelation
The way in which God reveals Himself (general revelation and special revelation)
Sensus plenior
“Plenary” or “fuller sense”; the meaning of the Bible as it has come to be interpreted through Christian history while seeking to remain true to what the Biblical author meant to convey
Sola fide
“Faith only”; the only way to receive God’s grace is through faith
