Vocab Quiz #6 Flashcards
Pan
A camera movement in which the camera rotates horizontally on its axis, presenting a panoramic view of the scene. (Used frequently in Westerns to show the vastness of the landscape).
Point-of-view
A subjective shot that duplicates the optical perspective of a specific character in the film. (POV shots are used to great effect in the film, Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock)
Producer
The person who is in charge of the business aspects of the film, including its success or failure.
Rear-screen (or back) projection
A common type of process shot in which seperately photographed planes of action are combined onto the same film to create the illusion that the two planes are adjacent.
(Ex: a director wants to film two people riding in a car on the highway, but does not wish to shoot on location. Instead, they can photograph the actors in a stationary car on a soundstage, and then combine this shot in post-production with moving footage of a highway.)
Rough cut
The total footage of the film which has been put together before the film editor works on it.
Scene
A film’s smallest dramatic unit, consisting of one or more shots that present continuous action in one location.
