Rear-screen (or back) projection

A

A common type of process shot in which seperately photographed planes of action are combined onto the same film to create the illusion that the two planes are adjacent.

(Ex: a director wants to film two people riding in a car on the highway, but does not wish to shoot on location. Instead, they can photograph the actors in a stationary car on a soundstage, and then combine this shot in post-production with moving footage of a highway.)
