Ostentatious
(Adj.): Designed to get attention; showy; gaudy; done in a way to show off; very conspicuous.
EX: I was not pleased with my friend, she was being ostentatious about her new bike.
Serendipitous
(Adj.): Come upon or found by accident with a good effect; fortuitous.
EX: My puppy (Chevy) was a serendipitous surprise! :)
Arid
(Adj.): Having very little rainfall; very dry.
Antonym: humid.
EX: The desert was arid, it was the most difficult part to travel on our long windy journey.
Frigid
(Adj.): Very cold; very cold in feeling or manner.
EX: The frigid air slapped my skin as I walked outside.
Squalid
(Adj.): Foul through neglect of lack of cleaning; dirty; filthy.
EX: the bedroom was considered squalid, there was pizza boxes-clothes laying on the floor.
Torrid
(Adj.): Very hot; burning; scorching.
EX: The water was scorching hot as it began to boil.
Minuscule/Minuscule
(Adj.): Very small, minuscule- (variation of the word minuscule).
EX: The ant was minuscule compared to my large shoe coming down to smash it.
Mystified
(Adj.): Puzzled, perplexed, bewildered, confused.
EX: The chicken was mystified when the farmer took him from the coop to be slaughtered.
Nonchalant
(Adj.): coolly unconcerned, indifferent, or unexcited; casual.
EX: Though the dog was about to have surgery done he seemed nonchalant.
Scrutinize
(V.): To examine in detail with careful or critical attention.
EX: The photographer scrutinized the picture, he checked every detail, and tried his best to make it perfect.
Intrepid
(Adj.): Resolutely fearless; dauntless; brave; bold; courageous.
Antonym: Timid; fearful.
EX: She climbed higher and higher intrepid, even if she was afraid of heights.
Indomitable
(Adj.): Cannot be subdued or overcome, as persons, will or courage; unconquerable.
Synonyms: Unyielding; invincible.
EX: The indomitable dog ran around the yard without stopping.
Avalanche
(N.): A large mass of snow, ice, dirt, or rocks falling quickly down the side of a mountain.
EX: The Avalanche of books nearly landed on top of me.
Insulate
(V.): To prevent heat from passing through something.
EX: A air conditioner insulates the classroom.
Splinter
(V.): To break up into sharp, thin pieces.
EX: T splintered the glass cup when I dropped it.
