Vocab - Kanato Flashcards

1
Q

Multifarious

A

Great diversity or variety

He guessed that he came from a place where his multifarious skills were useful but, for a fully unknown reason, he could not remember a thing about his past. At most he would get random flashes of little, minor things that led to no particular real meaning. For example, the one fractured memory he’d get most was him crying out to help, ‘Santi, I can’t hold them back, I’m sorry.’ Those words would replay over and over and over in his head. What was Santi? What was he holding back? He hoped he would get more memories over time because his fractured memories only confused him more and more.

Q

Mendacious

A

Having a lying, false character

He narrowed his eyes, glaring at Helena. Her eyes stared back with overwhelming sincerity. He didn’t know why he was so hyper-aware of ensuring that Helena wasn’t mendacious. Was it linked to his past? He wasn’t sure but he wouldn’t allow his guard to be down with her around. He didn’t trust her. He didn’t trust anyone.

Q

Seraphic

A

Angelic, sweet

He grew tired of the seraphic tune. It wasn’t going to work on him. Most others would be drawn into the forest before being swarmed by a group of Compys. He knew better, he had watched that exact situation happen to someone else a few days after he had woken up on The Island.

Q

Diaphanous

A

Light, airy, transparent

The barrier was diaphanous, completely invisible to the eye unless touching it, yet it was harder than anything Kanato could remember. Except for that one punch. He jumped, realising that this was a memory he hadn’t yet had. As he allowed the memory to formulate, still holding a hand out and touching the barrier, appearing to be absolutely insane to anyone who could have been watching, the memory began and ended within seconds. He remembered being in a suit and punching something enormous with his full power. In his memory, the punch was strong, infinitely stronger than anything he could produce now, yet the suit crumbled due to the force while the object being punched didn’t even have a scratch or a dent. He was suddenly filled with an overwhelming sense of dread. He wasn’t sure if the feeling was from the memory or himself reacting to the memory, it was likely both. The memory gave him so many more questions: what was the object he hit? What was the suit he was wearing, How long ago before he landed on The Island did that all occur? He had a lot of questions from the memory but at least he had a very important answer. He could get stronger. Stronger than he could even imagine. He was once incredibly powerful and touching other powerful things helped spark some memories. This fact gave him some much-needed motivation, he would get his strength back and find the answers he needed.

Kanato smirked, this trip was much more beneficial than he could have imagined. He wasn’t able to keep his jovial mood up for long, however, as a Leedsichthys launched at the raft from under the water, immediately ripping off a quarter of the raft.

Q

Sagacious

A

Intelligent, showing good judgement

The Therizinousaurs were surprisingly sagacious, causing Kanato to raise an eyebrow. Whenever dinosaurs were having whatever type of conflict, Kanato would normally ignore it and keep moving; however, this was different. The raptor group was too large and was ignoring nearby easier prey and the Therizinosaurs were acting with way too much intelligence for this to be normal. This situation was very peculiar.

Q

Obstreperous

A

Loud, unruly

Being as obstreperous as they were, the Raptors didn’t notice Kanato charging at them.

Q

Inexorable

A

Incapable of being persuaded or placated

Kanato smiled, he had expected, considering the seemingly tyrannical nature of the New Legion, Nerva to be inexorable; however, Nerva was delightful and reasonable.

Q

Pulchitrude

A

Physical beauty

The pulchritude of the artifact left both Kanato and Zini mesmerised. The artifact emitted a beautiful array of colours while it pulsed. The energy it released filled them with warmth, enthralling them even more.

Q

Compunction

A

Distress caused by feeling guilty

He guessed that he came from a place where his multifarious skills were useful but, for a fully unknown reason, he could not remember a thing about his past. At most he would get random flashes of little, minor things that led to no particular real meaning. For example, the one fractured memory he’d get flashes to most was him apologising to someone: ‘Santi, I can’t hold them back, I’m sorry.’ Those words would replay over and over and over in his head accompanied by an overwhelming feeling of dread and compunction. Who was Santi? What was he holding back? He hoped he would get more memories over time because his fractured memories only confused him more and more every time they flashed into his head.

Q

Neophyte

A

Someone who is young or inexperienced

He chuckled, fully entertained by the gormless neophytes. They overestimated their own strength completely. He was walking with them by choice, not force. If he so wished it, he could kill them all in less than a second. Them pointing their blades at him only increased the likelihood of him fighting back. He was not intimidated in the slightest.

Q

Levity

A

An inappropriate lack of seriousness, overly casual in a serious situation

Kanato rolled his eyes, he couldn’t believe Zini’s levity. He found it funny, actually. There was such a stark contrast between their attitudes: Zini was carefree and fun while he was pensive and lost.

Q

Glib

A

Good at speaking cleverly in a way to persuade people

Kanato squinted his eyes, he wouldn’t let Rockwell’s glib work on him. He could tell that, despite the slick, flattering words, Rockwell was a truly malevolent person.

Q

Blithe

A

Carefree and unconcerned

Zini waited until the exact moment that Kanato left before chuckling to himself and popping his head up. He readied himself to get up and start exploring. He didn’t much care for the ‘dangers’ around that Kanato kept speaking about. Zini was blithe in his nature and he wouldn’t let a stupid human stop him.

Q

Garrulous

A

Excessively wordy, talkative

Kanato thought Helena was quite funny. She had a vastly different energy to the cold, untrusting one he had gotten used to. One would even call her naive. It was quite concerning how she left herself open with her guard down constantly. Had Mei Yin and Kanato been bad people, they could have killed Helena on several occasions or worse. But, he supposed, she likely put her guard down because she had a good sense of character and knew they were safe to be around.

He also found her garrulous nature hilarious. It was likely that, had he understood science, her words may have sounded less pointless and excessively wordy. He chuckled out loud, alerting and concerning Zini. Santi would’ve probably enjoyed talking with her. Santi? Kanato’s eyes flew wide open as he realised he now had another part of the puzzle. So Santi, whoever they were, was big on science. He smirked, he’d explore the entire island and use whatever he could find to unlock more and more of his memory.

Q

Assiduous

A

Hard-working; diligent

From what he could tell, Mei Yin was ridiculously assiduous: shunned by her whole family, rejected by her village, treated like she was disgusting by the villagers for wanting to become a warrior, and only treated like a human once she was useful to the village. Even one of those things would be enough to make someone give up; however, despite all of that, Mei Yin had the courage and determination to become a warrior and managed to reach a point where, although she was no match for him at all, she was the best fighter that Kanato had seen on the island. By far.

17
Q

Apathy

A

Lack of interest

“HEY! YOU! STOP RIGHT NOW!” The leader of a group of five shouted, sprinting with his squad at full speed towards Kanato. Kanato turned around and stared back, lips sealed tight and staring at the group with his body slumped against a tree, not attempting to hide his apathy at all. They were running extremely slowly. Well, perhaps to normal people, they were running quite fast but Kanato easily could have crossed through the forest he was walking towards in the time they took to reach him.

18
Q

Indefatigable

A

Tirelessly persistent

He wouldn’t allow them to defeat him. He wouldn’t allow them to kill Santi, or at least let them kill him before he finished with it. He had been indefatigable all his life. Every challenge he’d had he’d faced head-on and rose above it, eventually becoming the strongest living being to ever exist. This may very well be his last ever battle but he wouldn’t allow himself to stand there and be pusillanimous when not only his friends’ life but also the entire world’s life was dependent on him. This was the ultimate challenge. He wouldn’t let himself be taken down. He wouldn’t give up. He would win.

Pusillanimous

A

lacking courage; timid
