Live/ Dead
Terms used to differentiate whether or not a bounced truck may be able to still pick the load.
Plated Trailer
A plate trailer has an inside width of 101.5 inches, has a door opening of 100 or 100.5 inches, and is typically food grade. They may have E-tracks (must be smooth) for securement. No wood walls.
PFF
- PFF - Protect from freeze. Load requires carriers to prevent the product from freezing in transit. Carrier must be notified that they are taking a PFF load and will be held liable if the product does freeze. - Reefer

Targeted Commodity
Product that is targeted by cargo thieves. Typical targeted commodities: Metals, beverages, electronics.
Work in
Driver is being dispatched to pick a load and the pick time has already passed. Customer is usually aware driver is picking without an appointment, but they are not willing to pay detention. This must all be communicated with the carrier to avoid issues.
Flex
Refers to the amount of flexibility the customer will allow for any given transit.
Seal
A strip or tie made out of either metal or plastic that is fastened to the trailer doors to ensure the contents of a trailer can’t be accessed while in transit and thus preventing tampering or theft.
Deadhead
Miles a driver moves empty without a shipment. Typically refers to the miles used to bring the driver to the next pick up location. In checked in status.
Food Grade Trailer
Trailer that is approved to haul food products. Must be dry, odor free, and clean. The trailer can’t have any holes.
E Tracks
Versatile tool that can be mounted vertically or horizontally on the inside of trucks to provide additional securement.
Block and Brace
Wood or metal or other approved supports to keep shipments in place in or on rail cars, containers and trailers
FCFS
First come first serve.
Yard
The space used by a trucking company for dropping off, picking up and storing trailers.
Comcheck
Blank check that can be cashed at a truck stop used for truckload accessorials such as lumpers and fuel advances
