Origin
attachment to the immovable or less movable bones
Insertion

Extension
opposition of flexion; movement that increased the angle or distance between two bones or part of the body (straightening the knee)
Rotation
the movement of a bone around its longitudinal axis (shaking the head no)
Abduction
the movement of a limb AWAY from the midline of the body (moving the leg laterally from the body)
Adduction
opposite of abduction; the movement of a limb toward the midline of the body (moving leg medially toward the body)
Circumduction
movement of a limb or extermityt so that the distal end describes a circle while the proximal end remains fixed
dorsiflexion
lifting the foot so that its superior surface approaches the shin (standing on heels)
plantar flexion
depressing the foot (pointing the toes downward)
inversion
turning of the sole medially (ankle inward)
eversion
turning of the sole laterally (ankle outward)
Supination
movement of the forearm that rotates laterally so that palms face forward
pronation
movement that occurs in the forearm and rotates medially so that palms face posterially and ulna and radius form an x
opposition
action of saddle joint between metacarpal 1 and the carpals (thumb touches other points of fingers)
