The bending of a wave as it enters a new medium
Diffraction
The spreading out of a wave through an opening or an obstacle
Examples of refraction:
A straw inside a glass of water
Example of reflection:
Holding a light to a mirror and having it bounce another way
Example of diffraction:
When you can hear sound even though windows, doors, ect.
Incandescence
The production of light by materials at high temperatures. (Sun)
Luminescence
The production of light without high temperatures. (Glow sticks)
Fluorescence
Occurs when a material absorbs EM radiation of one wavelength and gives off EM radiation of another. (Computer)
Transmission
The passage of an EM wave through a medium
Absorption
A dissaperence of an EM wave into the medium
Scattering
The spreading out of light waves in all directions
