Q

Parti Diagram

A

is usually a sketch, diagram, drawing, doodle, or some other graphic that represents the direction, concept, or theme of a design. It can be very rough; the proverbial back of a napkin sketch.

Q

True or False a parti diagram is always a sketchy informal drawing?

A

False

A parti is a communication tool. It communicates the intent of your design concept. The parti should communicate something about the form as well as the concept.

Ideally, your parti will communicate the experience you intend to create. It should depict something about the functional, sensory, and /or emotional aspects of your design concept.

That said, a parti does not have to be a diagram or sketch. A picture, an object, maybe even a Pinterest board may serve the purpose of a parti.

Q

test fit plan

A

generally shows most of the furniture and equipment and is drawn to scale. This gives designers and students an opportunity to see if the actual spaces will “fit” into the proposed building space.
The test fit plan is part of the overall space-planning process as it addresses the physical and functional aspects of a project and will allow the designers to coordinate corridors and adjacencies.

Q

Prometrix

A

is the study of the cultural and spatial needs of people and their interactions.

is the study of how human beings relate to a space based on their cultural background?

is the study of the use of space by human beings in a particular culture.

17
Q

Dion was promoted and now has his own office. He has been busy adding his own personal touches to the space to include his diploma, and framed award certificates, photos of his wife and kids, and photos of his fraternity brothers. What type of human behavior is this an example of?

A

Territoriality

18
Q

The measurements of a person standing at a kitchen counter washing dishes are an example of?

A

dynamic anthropometrics

19
Q

the term prometrix was created by who?

A

an anthropologist Edward T. Hall

20
Q

Intimate distance

A

allows actual physical contact and generally exists from skin surface to a distance of approximately 1 1⁄2 feet (457 mm)

21
Q

Personal distance

A

approximately 1 1⁄2 feet to 4 feet (457 mm to 1.2 m)

22
Q

Public distance

A

the space that extends beyond the 12-foot (3.65-m) limit of the social zone

23
Q

Anthropometrics

A

is the measure of the size, proportions, and range of motion of the human body.

24
Q

Static anthropometrics

A

measures the human body at rest

25
Q

Anthropometrics

A

is the measure of the size, proportions, and range of motion of the human body.

studies the size and proportions of the human body including variations in cultural populations.

26
Q

human factors

A

involves the correctness of fit between objects and spaces and the needs of the people using those objects and spaces, as it relates to the human scale — an environment designed to fit a person as opposed to equipment, such as a vehicle.

27
Q

Ergonomics

A

is the study of human beings and their responses to various working conditions and environments.

28
Q

Form

A

element of design is created with lines, planes, volumes, and to a lesser extent, points

29
Q

Form, function, economy, and time are?

A

4 major considerations of any design problem

30
Q

This is the relative size of an object or element in comparison to another element of known size:

A

Scale

31
Q

Proportion

A

is simply the relationship of parts of a composition to each other and to the whole.

32
Q

The degree of lightness or darkness of color in relation to white and black

A

value

33
Q

it provides a diversity of ways to allow maximum participation
