Vitamins Flashcards
Amino Acids
Amino acids (also called “the building blocks of protein”) are natural compounds that combine to form proteins in the body. When proteins are digested and broken down, they leave behind amino acids.
Amino acids are crucial in helping the body break down food, repairing body tissue, growing, and performing many other bodily functions.
Some amino acids contain essential compounds that may help boost metabolism and help aid in physical performance. Some amino acids also help to detoxify the body and restore balance. In combination, this can help to achieve exceptional weight loss results and increase energy levels.
Amino Blend contains the following per ml: Glutamine 30mg,Ornithine 50mg, Arginine 100mg, Lysine 50mg, Citruline 50mg.
Biotin
Biotin is one of the B vitamins (a.k.a. Vitamin B7), which can fortify keratin infrastructure and may help promote healthy hair, skin and nails.
Patient should not receive dose of Biotin about 3-4 days prior to any blood work.
Biotin can decrease troponin result levels and interfere with Thyroid hormone testing results.
B-Complex
B-Complex is a combination of select water soluble B vitamins beneficial in promoting various systems in the body. Most B-Complex supplements consist of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7 and B9 in a concentrated form, designed to maximize results. B vitamins are beneficial for the eyes, nerve function, heart health, cell health, growth of red blood cells, energy, and brain function.
Our B-Complex contains: B1 (Thiamine HCl) 100 mg, B2 (Riboflavin-5Phosphate Sodium) 2 mg, B3 (Niacinamide) 100 mg, B5 (Dexpanthenol) 2 mg, B6 (Pyridoxine HCl) 2 mg B7.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an essential micronutrient for humans. It contributes to the immune system by supporting cellular functions in the immune response. Vitamin C helps to protect the cell wall against pathogens and adds a barrier to the skin cells to keep pathogens out. Vitamin C can be a treatment as well as a preventative measure to combat infections.
Carnitine
Carnitine is found in nearly all cells of the body and plays a critical role in fueling the production of energy. It transports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria so they can be oxidized, or burned, to produce energy. Carnitine also transports toxic compounds out of the cellular organelle, preventing any accumulation. Given these functions, carnitine is concentrated in tissues that utilize fatty acids as fuel, like skeletal and cardiac muscles.
Carnitine is indicated in those with cardiovascular disease, renal (kidney) insufficiency, male infertility, diabetes, muscular disease, HIV/AIDS, and it also helps aid in athletic performance and aging.
Do not give to any pts taking Warfarin
Glutathione
Glutathione is our body’s most powerful antioxidant that is naturally produced within the liver. This mother of all antioxidants helps bind with toxins within the body to excrete them out and reduce the oxidative stress within our systems. Our environment, medications, chemicals, and stress can decrease the amount of Glutathione the body can produce. Along with helping to detox the body, Glutathione is helpful in supporting iron levels, blood sugar management and maintaining healthy blood flow. Glutathione IV Therapy appears to be the most successful delivery system for glutathione. This is because it enables glutathione to get straight into your bloodstream.
B12
Vitamin B 12 is beneficial for your body to burn fat, turn carbohydrates into energy and new protein. It also helps to regulate feelings of irritability, anxiety, fatigue and other neurological function. IV or IM B 12 is preferred over oral supplementation due to the absorption rate. B 12 is excreted quickly through the digestive process. B 12 can also help support production of red blood cells but a single dose is not helpful to treat low iron and anemia levels alone.
magnesium
May help with migraine and general bodily processes
Mineral that must come from diet
Important in many bodily processes
Energy creation
Muscle formation
Nervous system regulation
Great for migraines as it helps dilate blood vessels
Magnesium is a powerhouse of a vitamin that is involved in hundreds of biochemical reactions in the body. It is contained in every cell in the body and they require magnesium to function. Magnesium is a helper to other cellular functions in the body. Decreased levels of magnesium can cause muscle soreness and stiffness, constriction of blood vessels causing headaches and migraines, maintenance of blood sugars, anti-inflammatory properties. Unfortunately, studies suggest that about 50% of people in the US and Europe get less than the recommended daily amount of magnesium.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D (also referred to as “calciferol”) is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in a few foods, added to others, and available as a dietary supplement. It is also produced endogenously when ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight strike the skin and trigger vitamin D synthesis.
Taurine
May help with energy, focus, exercise, and recovery
Naturally occurring amino acid in the body
Commonly found in energy drinks such as red bull
Important for heart, brain, and muscles
Helps with focus and energy but may also improve sleep
Taurine is necessary for your metabolic and digestive processes. Helps the liver to make bile to help break down fats in your intestines. Taurine is also shown to help increase energy and exercise performance, specifically combat exercise fatigue and reduce muscle damage. Also, taurine is heart healthy, can help reduce blood pressure and blood flow through the arteries.
NAD
Add info
Zinc
May help with immunity, active illness, muscle recovery, and skin
Mineral
Essential for a wide variety of immune function
Some research shows Zinc may reduce the duration of a cold by half
Protects cells that make your skins support system – collagen – which
helps lessen aging and damage by things like the sun (UV Light)
Zinc is an important mineral that plays a roll in wound healing, maintaining growth of muscle and bones, provides hydration to the skin, and facilitates the function of the other vitamins provided within the Myers Cocktail.
