Toradol

A

Toradol is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works to reduce the hormones that cause inflammation and pain.
SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT: Migraines
Body Aches
Post-Surgical or Post Procedure Pain
MANAGEMENT: Systemic Inflammation Processes
Musculoskeletal Pain
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Kidney Disease
Post procedure instructions to avoid
Pregnancy
NSAIDs
Stomach Ulcer
Head Injury
Bleeding Risk
Planned Surgery or Procedure Scheduled
MEDICATION INTERACTIONS: (Be cautious but do not always need to hold)
Anticoagulants (May increase risk of bleeding)
AntiDepressants (May increase risk of bleeding)
Other NSAIDS (Discuss previous pain relief medications used prior to arrival and last dose taken)

Benadryl

A

Benadryl is an antihistamine that reduces the effect of the natural chemical histamine in the body.
Symptom Management
Allergies
Migraines
Vomiting
Nausea
Promote sleep
Contraindications or Medication Interactions
Cymbalta – Combining medications can increase the potency of the Benadryl.
Gabapentin – Increase risk of dizziness, drowsiness and confusion.
Narcotic Pain Medications – May increase dizziness, drowsiness and confusion.
Antihypertensives – Combining HTN medications and Benadryl may have additive effects in lowering blood pressure.
Other AntiHistamine Medications – Discuss if patient is using other antihistamines and when last dose taken.
Diphenhydramine should be administered IVP slowly over 2-5 minutes to avoid euphoric symptoms. Not to be given in combination with Phenergan® (promethazine).
Driving caution: Please advise patients to not operate heavy machinery or drive for at least 6 hours after being given diphenhydramine.

Pepcid

A

Pepcid is a Histamine-2 blocker that decreases the amount of stomach acids produced.
Symptom Management
Nausea
Active Vomiting
Sour Stomach
Allergies
Inflammatory Bowel Pain (more helpful than Toradol)
Contraindications
Renal dysfunction
GI Bleeds
Patient Taking Ciprofloxacin – Increase risk of irregular heart rhythm
Chemotherapy agents that end in “NIB” – can interfere with the absorption of oral chemo agents.

A

Increases muscle contractions of the upper digestive systems, helps speed up the rate of gastric emptying.
Symptom Management
Nausea and vomiting
Delayed gastric emptying
Contraindications
Any muscle movement issues
Intestinal blockage, bleeding or intestinal wall hole or tear
Seizure disorder
Pheochromocytoma
Alcohol consumption
