Vitamin K Flashcards

Q

What conditions affect Vit K absorption?

A

Similar to other fat soluble vitamins, any impairment in the lipid absorption process like biliary obstruction or significant small bowel resection decreases absorption. Absorption varies from 40 to 80% but can be reduced to 20 to 30% in the above condition. NB: Phylloquinone (Vit K1-plant form) is primarily absorbed in the jejunum.
