What is it’s significance?

A

RR > 30 cycles/min indicates significant pathology. Cost of ventillation in COPD is 5-10 times greater than normal.
Causes: APO, asthma, infective COPD (consider ventillation)

A

MAP = [(2x DP) + SP] / 3.

MAP most closely correlates to organ perfusion. MAP> 70 is normal, higher in HTN pts.

What is malignant hyperthermia and how do you treat it?

A

Genetic inheritance of ryanidine reception mutation. MH in response to volatile anaesthetics (sevoflurane) and depolarising muscle blocks (suxamethonium).
Rx with Dantrolene sodium.
