Normal Respirations
10-20
Normal Heart Rate
Rhythm?
50/60-100 BPM
Regular or irregular
Tachycardia
BPM>100
Bradycardia
BPM
Normal Blood Pressure (goal)
120/80
Pre-HTN
S: 120-139
D: 80-89
Stage 1 HTN
S: 140-159
D: 90-99
Stage 2 HTN
160/100
S: >160
D: >100
Temperature (normal ranges)
- 8-37.3 C
96. 4-99.1 F
Force of pulse
What is normal?
0- weak
1- thready
2+- normal
3- bounding
Orthostatic hypotension
Occurs upon standing or changing positions
- if systolic drops greater than 20mmgh OR
- increase in pulse greater than 20 BPM
Normal is a drop in less than 10 mmHg
Pulse Ox
97-99%
Kortkoff sounds
Kortkoff 1: (systolic number) first clear sound
Kortkoff 5: is silence, diastolic pressure is the number at which the last sound is heard before silence
Pulse
Pulse is a pressure wave created by stroke volume when the heart is pumping
Normal SV-70 ml
Apical pulse
Peripheral pulse
Take apical pulse for a full minute
Peripheral pulse for 30 sec and multiply by 2, unless pulse is irregular than take for 1 minute
What affects pulse (rate, rhythm, force)?
Fever, meds, anxiety, heart problems, activity, athlete
What is always the 1st level priority?
Respiratory distress
What affects RR?
Narcitics Exercise Sleep Heart failure Head injury Sleep
What affects O2?
Anemia
Lung disease
Heart disease
Blood pressure
Blood pushing against vessel wall (S)
Resting BP is pressure against vessel wall between contractions (D)
Diastole lasts longer than systole
Pulse pressure is the diff between S and D
Factors controlling BP?
Cardiac output Vascular resistance Volume Viscosity Elasticity of arterial walls
