What is the normal body temperature?
36.4-37.6 degrees Celsius.
Define Pyrexia.
Significant rise in body temperature above 37.6°C.
Define Apyrexia.
Absence or intermission of fever.
Define hypothermia.
Body temperature below 35°C.
Define hyperpyrexia.
Body temperature above 40°C.
What is the normal pulse rate of an adult?
60-100 bpm
What do you need to take note of when taking a pulse?
Rate, rhythm, amplitude.
Define bradycardia.
Slow heart rate (pulse rate of less than 60 bpm)
Define tachycardia.
Fast heart rate (pulse rate of more than 100 bpm)
What is the normal respiratory rate of an adult?
12-18 rpm.
Define Bradypnoea, tachypnoea, dyspnoea and apnoea.

- shortness of breath
- suspension of external breathing
What is the normal oxygen saturation levels in their blood of an adult?
95-98%
What is the normal blood pressure of an adult?
120/80 mmHg
Define mean arterial pressure (MAP)
Average pressure required to push blood through the circulatory system. Indicates perfusion of the major organs and tissues.
Define hypotension.
Low blood pressure (systolic below 100 mmHg).
