Functions of VIT D:
A
- Along with Calcium/Phosphorus it develops & maintains bones/teeth
- Prevents OSTEOPOROSIS
- Helps heal fractured bones
- Helps aborbtion of CALCIUM by he intestines

Sources of VIT D:
A
- Sunlight (UV LIGHT REACTS WITH A SUBSTANCE IN SKIN TO PRODUCE VIT D)
- Dairy
- Eggs
- Liver
- Oily fish

Excess of VIT D:
A
- Stored in soft tissue
- Large doses are associated increased levels of CALCIUM in blood/heart/kidneys
- Symptoms = nauseas/vomitting

Defiency of VIT D:
A
- Hinders absorption of CALCIUM
- RICKETS can occour in babies & toddlers = created bowed legs & softened bones (UNABLE TO CALCIFY/HARDEN properly)
- OSTEOMALACIA can cause bones to fracture
- Asian women & darker skin tones are at greater risk because of their increased pigmentation it reduces skins ability to produce VIT D from sunlight
