A
  • Sunlight (UV LIGHT REACTS WITH A SUBSTANCE IN SKIN TO PRODUCE VIT D)
  • Dairy
  • Eggs
  • Liver
  • Oily fish

Excess of VIT D:

A
  • Stored in soft tissue
  • Large doses are associated increased levels of CALCIUM in blood/heart/kidneys
  • Symptoms = nauseas/vomitting

Defiency of VIT D:

A
  • Hinders absorption of CALCIUM
  • RICKETS can occour in babies & toddlers = created bowed legs & softened bones (UNABLE TO CALCIFY/HARDEN properly)
  • OSTEOMALACIA can cause bones to fracture
  • Asian women & darker skin tones are at greater risk because of their increased pigmentation it reduces skins ability to produce VIT D from sunlight
