Visual Word Recognition Flashcards

1
Q

What are the different types of stimuli?

A

Regular words - real, may be stored in lexicon
Non-words - put together workable graphemes
Irregular words - don’t follow spelling to sound mapping, need store to pronounce
Homophones - measure semantic input

Q

What are the 2 models of word recognition?

A

Dual route model (Coltheart et al, 1997)
Connectionist model (Plaut, 1997)

Q

What are the types of typical reading errors?

A

Regularisation - regularise irregular words
Semantic errors - one word appears but different, related word read
Visual errors - similar letters lead to different, but visually similar word read

Q

How can regularisation errors be explained using different models

A

Q

How can semantic errors be explained using different models

A

Q

How can visual errors be explained using different models
