Visual Perception Flashcards
What are the two depth cues?
Binocular (two eyes) and monocular (one eye)
What are the four Gestalt Principles?
Figure-Ground, Closure, Proximity and Similarity
What are the TWO binocular depth cues?
Convergence and Retinal Desparity
What is convergence?
That is when there is muscle tension when an object is closer and the eyes turn inwards
What is Retinal Disparity?
Two images (one from each eye) comes together to form one image.
What are the monocular depth cues?
Accommodation and then there are pictorial depth cues of which there are five
What is accommodation?
Shape of the lens changes to see movement
What are the five pictorial depth cues?
Texture gradient, height in the visual field, relative size, linear perspective and interposition.
What is texture gradient?
Detail lessens as it gets further away
What is interposition?
Objects over lap each other
What is height in the visual field?
Object that is closer to the horizon looks further away
What is relative size?
When the same objects are smaller than the bigger ones it is seen to be more distant
What is linear perspective?
Two lines seem to meet in the distance
What is perceptual constancies?
When we perceive objects as unchanging even though image in retina changes
What are the four perceptual constancies?
Size, shape, orientation and brightness
