The experimenter must ensure the welfare of the participant, balance the benefits to society from the findings against any risk to the research participants, and must also respect the participants rights as individuals.
Define ethics.
Ethics are standards that guide individuals to identify good, desirable or acceptable conduct.
State five participant rights.
No harm, confidentiality, involuntary participation, withdrawal rights and informed consent.
What right protects participants from being exposed to an unacceptable level of psychological distress?
No harm.
If the participant is under 18 years of age, who must sign the release?
A guardian.
What right allows the participant to withdraw from the study at any time?
Withdrawal rights.
Before the experiment takes place, what must the researcher receive?
The researcher must receive written, informed consent from each participant.
Define confidentiality in research studies.
Confidentiality is the right to privacy in terms of access storage and the disposal of information related to research.
