Visual Pathways Flashcards
1
Q
outline the visual pathway from the optic tracts
A
- signals go to lateral geniculate nucleus in the thalamus
- primary visual cortex located in and around calcarine sulcus in the occipital lobe
2
Q
where are the lower and upper visual field projected to in the 1y visual cortex
A
- lower - gyrus superior to calcarine sulcus
- converse
3
Q
where in the viusal cortex does the macula project to
A
- posterior pole (occupies a proportionally large area in relation to the size of its visual field)
4
Q
name of the tract from thalamus to 1y visual cortex
A
from LGN in thalamus to calcarine sulcus: geniculocalcarine tract
5
Q
Meyers loop
A
- fibres of the geniculocalcarine tract form part of the internal capsule initially
- lower optic radiation fibres (corresponding to superior visual quadrants) first loop anteriorly around the temporal part of the lateral ventricle and end just below the calcarine sulcus
6
Q
medial longitudinal fasciculus
A
- a series of crossed fibres in the brainstem formed of both ascending and descending fibres
- links CN III, IV and VI (and also VIII) to integerate the movements of the eyes and the head
7
Q
where is the gustatory cortex located
A
