Visual Pathways Flashcards

1
Q

outline the visual pathway from the optic tracts

A
  • signals go to lateral geniculate nucleus in the thalamus
  • primary visual cortex located in and around calcarine sulcus in the occipital lobe

Q

Meyers loop

A
  • fibres of the geniculocalcarine tract form part of the internal capsule initially
  • lower optic radiation fibres (corresponding to superior visual quadrants) first loop anteriorly around the temporal part of the lateral ventricle and end just below the calcarine sulcus

Q

medial longitudinal fasciculus

A
  • a series of crossed fibres in the brainstem formed of both ascending and descending fibres
  • links CN III, IV and VI (and also VIII) to integerate the movements of the eyes and the head
