Visual Field Problems Flashcards
1
Q
Monocular Vision Loss
A
Optic Nerve
- Retinal disorders, optic nerve disorders, corneal disorders, trauma
2
Q
Bitemporal Hemianopia
A
Optic Chiasm
- Loss of outer visual fields in both eyes
- Pituitary tumours, craniopharyngiomas (most often in children), meningioma
3
Q
Contralateral Homonymous Hemianopia
A
Optic radiation
- Loss of half the visual field in both eyes on the same side
- Macula not spared
- Stroke or tumour affecting optic radiation, occipital lobe lesions
4
Q
Quadrantanopias
A
Optic Radiation
- Loss of a quarter of the visual field
- Stroke affecting specific pathways in the optic radiation, trauma, craniopharyngioma
NOTE:
- A lesion in the temporal lobe would cause contralateral homonymous superior (upper) quadrantanopia
- A lesion in the parietal lobe would cause contralateral homonymous inferior (lower) quadrantanopia
5
Q
Macular Sparing in Occipital Lobe Lesions
A
Occipital Lobe
- Central vision preserved despite peripheral field loss
- Occipital infarcts or haemorrhages
