When can a pilot discontinue an instrument approach and conduct a visual approach by day?
A
Within 30NM of the aerodrome not below LSALT/MSA or appropriate step in DME GNSS arrival or MDA and the aircraft is established;
- Clear of cloud
- In sight of ground or water
- Flight vis of 5000M or aerodrome is in sight
- Can subsequently maintain 1/2/3 at an altitude not less then that prescribed in CAR157 (VFR flight rules) to within circling area.

When can a pilot discontinue an instrument approach and conduct a visual approach by night?
A
Not below LSALT/MSA or appropriate step in DME GNSS arrival or MDA and the aircraft is established;
- Clear of cloud
- In sight of ground or water
- Flight vis of 5000M or aerodrome is in sight; and
- Within circling area; or
- Within 5NM (7NM for ILS runway) aligned with runway centreline not below “on slope” on PAPI/T-VASIS; or
- 10NM (14NM 16L/34L SY) established not below ILS glide slope with less than full scale azimuth deflection.
