Vision Flashcards
what is vision in both eyes
binocular vision
what do sense organs(receptors) do
keep us informed of what is happening
they detect different stimuli and generate nerve impulses to transmit information to the brain
what does each sense do
ears- hear sound and are used for balance
nose- smells chemicals in the air
tongue-tastes chemicals in food
skin-detects pressure, temperature and pain
eye-detect light
what does binocular vision do
produce two images
the brain compares both images and the more similar they are, the further away the object they are looking at is
what does the retina do
it has special light receptors that react to light. nerve impulses are sent through the optic nerve to the brain
what is the amount of light entering the eye controlled by
the iris
what is short sightedness
when the eyeball is too long. the lens focuses in front of the retina so distant objects cannot be seen clearly
what is long sightedness
when the eyeball is too short so the lens focuses behind the retina meaning near objects cannot be seen clearly
what do short sighted people need
contact lenses with concave lenses to refract the light less
what do long sighted people need
contact lenses with convex lenses
what is vision in one eye called
monocular vision
