where you need to cough extremely hard to be able to breathe
why do people get smokers cough?
- dust and particles in cigarette smoke collect and irritate epithelial lining
- mucus is not moved up from the lungs to the mouth by the cilia because it is damaged by the smoke
what are the cilia
cilia are tiny hairs that are found in the epithelial lining of the trachea bronchi and bronchioles
what is the cilia’s job
to sweep any dirt or dust particles out of the lungs
what can people who have smoked for many years develope

what does carbon monoxide do
stops red blood cells carrying oxygen as it binds to haemoglobin- increases risk of heart disease
what does nicotine do
very addictive
what does tar do
irritates lungs and causes cancer
what do particulates do
tiny particles collect together in the lungs and block them
