Vision Flashcards
What esssentialy is vison?
the ability to sense light (photons) as it enters the eye
The eye is divided into two cavitys. What are they?
the anterior cavitiy and the posterior cavity
Anterior cavity
-located between the lens and cornea
-filled with a fluid called “aqueus humor” to help nourish the lens, iris, and cornea
posterior cavity
-located between the lense and retina
-has a jelly like substance calles “Vitreous humor” to give the eye its spherical shape
The eye wall is divided into three layers. What are they?
1)Fiborus layer (outer)
2.Vascular layer (middle)
3.Neural layer (inner)
Fiborus layer:
-outermost later
-support,protect, attatchment, focus
What is the Sclera in the fiborus layer?
the white of the eye
What is the corenea in the fiborus layer?
the transparent part of the eye where light passes through to the lense
Vascular layer:
-contain blood vessles and intrincic eye muscles
-middle layer
what is the iris In the vascular layer?
2 layers of smooth muscle that controls the pupil size and eye color
what is the ciliary body in the vascular layer?
-made up of the ciliary muscle
-contraction and relaxtion enables the lens to change shape
what happens if the ciliary muscles are:
Relaxed
contracted
relaxed: increase in diameter and thickness
contracted: decrease in diameter and lens become more spherical/thin
What is the choroid in the eye?
the capillary network that delivers oxygen and nutrients to the eye
What are the two regions of neural layer/retina?
1.Pigmented part:a thin pigment lines this area. contians rods and cones
2.Neural part: thick layer that actually makes up the the neural retina and is the house of the photoreceptors
What type of receptrors does the retina contain?
photoreceptors
