Vision Flashcards
Light
- One form of electromagnetic energy that travels in waves.
Wavelength
Distance from one peak wave to another.
Cornea
-Clear membrane that covers the front of the eye.
-It helps gather and direct incoming light.
Pupil
-Black opening in the middle of the iris that changes size to let in different amounts of light.
-Surrounded by the iris.
Iris
-Colored structure.
-A ring of muscular tissue that contracts or expands to precisely control the size of the pupil and amount of light entering the eyes.
-What we refer to when we say someone has brown eyes.
-In dim light iris widens to let light in and in bright light the iris narrows.
Lens
-Transparent structure, behind the pupil, tha actively focuses, or bends, light as it enters the eye.
Accomodation
Process where lens thins or thickens to bend or focus the incoming light so that the light falls on the retina.
