Viscous Flow Flashcards
What is Viscous Flow?
Flow with Friction. In particular, the friction between the airflow and a solid surface.
What is the Boundary Layer?
Region of Viscous Flow that has been retarded due to surface friction.
What are the two regions a flow field can be separated into?
- Boundary layer near the surface
- Frictionless potential flow outside of the boundry area
How do pressures behave in the Boundary layer?
Pressures are equal perpendicular to the surface.
How does the boundary layer behave as it moves over the airfoil?
The thickness grows. More and more of the flow is affected as the distance along the surface increases.
What is Shear Stress?
Dimension of force created by presence of friction acting tangential to the surface.
What is the absolute viscosity coeefficien?
The physiclal property of a certain material that is constant at a certain sea level.
