Viscosity Flashcards
How do you distinguish between a fluid and a non-fluid?
A fluid flows
What is viscosity?
The thickness of a fluid
Compare and contrast liquids and gases
Both of them flow and take place of a container to a certain extent
How can you demonstrate that finely ground solids are not fluids?
Solids don’t take up the space of a container as well and if you heat the substance it will evaporate if it’s a fluid.
What is the relationship between a liquids viscosity and its flow rate?
If it has a high viscosity it has a low flow rate and if it has a low viscosity it has a high flow rate.
Examples of foods that taste better with a higher viscosity
Chocolate
Apple sauce
Ice cream
Examples of foods that taste better with a low viscosity
Juice
Soup broth
Water
Milk
What is the relationship between internal friction and viscosity?
If the internal friction is low the viscosity is low and if the internal friction is high then the viscosity is high
Use the particle theory to explain why and how the temperature affects the viscosity of liquids
Rule number four says Particles move faster when they are heated so then if they are moving faster then that means the particles can move past each other faster
How does the size and the shape of the particles of a fluid affect internal friction
The bigger they are the harder it is to move past the other particles and the smaller they are means they can slip past each other faster
