Fluids Test Flashcards
What are the three states of matter?
- Solids
- Liquids
- Gasses
What are the points of the particle theory of matter?
- All matter is made up of very small particles
- All particles in a pure substance are the same. Different substances are made up of different particles.
- There is a space between particles.
- The particles are moving. As the particles gain energy, they move faster.
- The particles in a substance are attracted to one another. The strength of the attractive force depends on the type of particle.
Define fluid and have 3 examples
A fluid is any substance that flows; includes liquids and gasses.
Examples: water, juice, milk
What is density?
How thick a substance is or the amount of mass in a certain unit volume of a substance (density equals mass divided by volume).
How do you measure the density of a substance? (What tools are used?)
You could measure it by using a triple balance scale.
What is volume?
Volume is a measurement of e substance amount of space occupied by the substance.
What is mass?
Mass is the amount of matter in a substance.
How do use a triple balance scale?
You use a triple balance scale by putting and object on the platform and measure the object first with the highest unit and then the next biggest unit and then the smallest unit.
What is the formula for density?
The formula for density is mass divided by volume and that will give you the density.
What is the formula for mass?
Mass=volume X(multiplied) by density
What is the formula for volume?
Volume=mass divided by density
What are the units to measure a fluid?
Grams per cubic centimetre.
