Hepatitis B virus
I: Hepatitis B
C: - Jaundice, darkening of the urine, clay-colored stools
- Pains and swelling of the joints
HIV
I: - Acute HIV
- AIDS
C: - Fever, malaise, arthralgia, rash
- Lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly
- AIDS: opportunistic infections

I: - Aseptic meningitis
- Poliomyelitis
Herpes-simplex virus
I: - Herpes / cold sore (HSV-1)
- Genital herpes (HSV-2)
C: - Vesicular eruptions, sometimes pustular; ending up in dried lesions and crusts.
Varicella-zoster virus
I: - Varicella (chickenpox)
- Shingles
C: - Fever, vesicular rash
- Dissemination when primary infection in adulthood
Cytomegalovirus
I: - Congenital CMV
- Asymptomatic or aspecific disease in childhood
- CMV disease in immunocompromised
C: - Fever, malaise (aspecific)
- In immunocompromised
patients: visceral CMV (lung, colon, eye, etc)
Epstein-Barr virus
I: - Infectious mononucleosis
- Asymptomatic or aspecific disease in childhood
- Lymphoproliferative disease in immunocompromised
C: - Fever, malaise, pharyngitis, tonsillitis
- Immunocompromised: persistent fever, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly
