viral interactions Flashcards
many viral infections are
subclinical
what does subclinical mean
no disease
what is same disease syndrome
group of signs and symptoms can be caused by different viruses
HBV,HCV
Similar viruses can produce
different diseases
VZV,EBV
outcome of virus infection can be influenced by
viral, host and environmental factors
what are the 7 steps in viral pathogenesis
entry into host
replication at initial site
spread to distal tissues/organs
cell injury
host immune response
clearance or establishment of persistent infection
transmission to new host
what are the 5 routes of entry
respiratory tract
alimentary tract
urogenital tract
eyes
skin
what are the 3 types of viral infections
acute chronic and latent
acute has
highest amount of virus in the shortest amount of time
chronic has
high virus load in the beginning then flattens out but is still prevelant
latent has
two peaks of high viral load count in tissue
virus is detectable when
chronic
no virus is detectable when
latent
where does acute localize infections enter and spread to
portal of entry and local lymph nodes
what is primary viremia
spreads virus to the central focus, virus then replicates at the central focus
