Viral Hepatitis Serology Flashcards
Acute HAV serology
anti-HAV IgM
Previous HAV infection serology
anti-HAV IgG (with absence of anti-HAV IgM)
- HBsAg
- Anti-HBs Ab
+ Anti-HBc IgM - Anti-HBc IgG
- HBe Ag
+ HBV DNA
Acute HBV window period serology
Window period is time between HBsAg diseappearing and anti-HBs Ab appearing
\+ HBsAg - Anti-HBs Ab \+ Anti-HBc IgM - Anti-HBc IgG \+ HBe Ag \+ HBV DNA
Acute HBV infection
+HbsAg and +HBc IgM without anti-HBsAb or anti-HBc IgG indicate acute infection
HBeAG is present in acute infection, chronic exacerbation because virus is active
- HBsAg \+ Anti-HBs Ab - Anti-HBc IgM \+ Anti-HBc IgG - HBe Ag - HBV DNA
Prior HBV infection
*indicated by + HBs Ab with + HBc IgG because HBc IgG would be absent in immunization
\+ HBsAg - Anti-HBs Ab - Anti-HBc IgM \+ Anti-HBc IgG - HBe Ag \+/- HBV DNA
Chronic inactive HBV infection
+ HBsAG indicates infection, + Anti-HBc IgG without Anti-HBs Ab indicates long term infection without resolution
Anti-HBs Ab indicates immunization or resolution
\+ HBsAg - Anti-HBs Ab \+ Anti-HBc IgM \+ Anti-HBc IgG \+ HBe Ag \+ HBV DNA
Active flare of chronic HBV infection
+ HBsAG indicates infection, + Anti-HBc IgG and IgM indicates long term infection with acute flare
HBeAG is present in acute infection, chronic exacerbation because virus is active
- HBsAg \+ Anti-HBs Ab - Anti-HBc IgM - Anti-HBc IgG - HBe Ag - HBV DNA
Immunization against HBV
Only exposed to surface Ag by vaccine
HDV serology
HDV RNA (PCR) HDV Ag, IgG or IgM
*Requires HBV infection!
