George and Lennie

A

•Lennie is always killing mice. George says “give it here Lennie!”
•George doesn’t have much patience with Lennie and is always shouting at him “for god sake Lennie, don’t drink so much” however this also shows he cares for him and doesn’t want hun to be sick.
•Curley started a fight with lennie. Lennie says “George, get him off me” showing that he doesn’t want trouble and he doesn’t want George to be mad at him
•lennie kills his brand new puppy in chapter 5. He says “why u got to get killed” this shows maybe he doesn’t quite know it was his fault that the puppy is dead.
•lennie kills Curleys wife as he is heavy handed and broke her neck. He says “I don’t another bad thing” He is mostly worried about what George is going to say, if he’s gonna be mad, and if he still gets to tend the rabbits. He has to run away to the river they were at in chapter one.
•George has to kill lennie as he knows if he doesn’t Curley will kill him painfully so George would rather do it in a non-painful way. “George pulled the trigger”

Curley

A

•Curley is aggressive as soon as he sees George and Lennie arrive at the ranch. He came in and “glanced coldly and George and then Lennie” showing how he is a rude and unwelcoming man towards them.
•”his hands bent at the elbows and his hand closed into fists” showing he’s in the fighting position
•”his glance was at one calculating and pugnacious” showing he was questioning weather to fight them or not. This shows how he wants to act tough and he wants them to be scared of him.
•Curley starts a fight with Lennie “what the hell u laughing at…get up on your feet” however it doesn’t go the way Curley planned as Lennie crushed his hand. Curley is clearly embarrassed as he tells everyone that he for his hand caught in a machine
•Curley is desperate to kill Lennie when he kills his wife. He doesn’t even care that is wife is dead, all he cares about it having revenge on Lennie. He says “shoot for his guts” “don’t give him a chance” showing he wants to kill him in the most painful way possible.
•racist and rude about crooks. Calls him the n-word showing how bad racism was in the 1930s

Curleys wife

A

•in chapter 4 she goes into crooks room and says to Lennie, candy and crook “left all the weak ones here” showing how rude she is to the men.
•she is racist to crooks and calls him the n-word.
•she says “I could get u strung up on a tree so easily” to crooks. She says this to crooks and he’s the only man she feels she can be above and be rude to because of his race. This shows how badly people were treated in the 1930s just because of their race.
•gets killed by Lennie “all the meanness, and the plannings and the discontent and the ache for attention were all gone from her face.

Carlson

A

•Carlson kills candy’s dog due to it being old and smelly. He says “god aw‘’mighty that dog stinks” “he led the dog out into the darkness” this shows how little respect men had for eachother in the 1930s and how the dog was candy’s only friend and he didn’t even think about how candy would feel.
•Carlson wants to help find Lennie with Curley showing how he would want to see Lennie be killed and how violent he is.

Candy

A

•talks about how smitty beat up crooks at Christmas for fun.
•his dog is killed- that was his only friend and he had him “ever since he was a pup”
•candy is the one to find Curleys wife dead body and tell everyone about it.
