A
Name recognition: using a commonly recognized varietal with unique flavors is often better for marketing.
EG: Mendoza clone of Chardonnay is fruity, but still says Chardonnay on the label
Disease and weather resistance, while keeping the name recognition

What is a Chimera?
A
A spontaneous mutation (perhaps color, size, etc.) on a single bunch or leaf on a vine. Examples where is happens a lot are Grenache, Gamay, Muscat and Pinot.
