Describe the events at the battle of Dien bien phu .

A

In 1954 , the french decided to fortisy Dien bien phu in order to lure the vietminh into battle.
The french waited with around 15,000 troops for the vietminh to attack.
They didn’t know that they were surrounded by 50,000 vietminh with anti-aircraft guns to shoot don french supply planes and other artillary which they had spent months getting into the mountains.
After 2 moneths the french surrendered.
After another two months an armistace was signed andthe french agreed to leave indochina.
Only 3000 french troops survived.

A

Diem was catholic ; most vietnamese were buddhist , religious clashes were common and buddhists assumed diem favoured the catholics.
Diem mainly gave government jobs to his family members and catholics.

describe how the vietcong used tunnels as part of their tactics.
built almost 100 miles of tunnels connecting to many viallages around saigon. the tunnels contained hospitals,weapon and fuel storage areas , and living space. as most vietnamese were smaller than americans, the tunnels were too small for us troops to fit into. The tunnels were also hard to find because thy were often a small hole hidden on the ground with a trapdoor covered by leaves.

SV did not know about this 1972 october , us and nv produced an agreement at the paric official talks. thieu refused to sign. he was furious that the agreement he had no part in making was being forced on him. the talks broke up as the nv stated that the us was using sv refusal to back out. the agreement was unsigned.
