- Never gave up, never gave in; kept faith and kept his eyes on the prize
- One person, one family, one house; we all live in the American house
- March on with hope, faith, love
- Arrested and jailed 40 times, beaten, harmed, friends killed
- Heard about Rosa Parks, MLK; inspired him to get in the way “get into necessary trouble”

BOTTOM LINE: Political science is used to assess the effects of policy and the ambitions of politics. Is it too good to be true?

  • encouraging the American people to join; bipartisan agreement; unite to fight
  • Acknowledged that if it was a problem before Vietnam, then it will continue to be one after
  • It is a presidential responsibility and authority to reduce the problem - a very urgent problem that had no coordination to solve it
  • Encouraged the immense spurt of the incarceration system, leading to the African American majority in prison
  • Used as a distraction. Did it work - NO.

Shays Rebellion

A
  • Poor farmers/war veterans were mad they had to pay raised taxes that were to pay back Revolutionary War debts
  • 1786: prevented tax collection and freed people jailed for taxes
  • Legislature had no army to fight back or money for troops
  • Militia formed by Boston to fight back; not the US National army
  • Led to debt relief; highlighted the weakness in the AOC about raising/funding an army
  • We need a new Constitution!!! Time to amend the AOC
  • May 1787, Group in Philly created a new Constitution for America for 5 months
