Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (1997)
FCPA
- Prohibits U.S. companies from bribery to foreign officials for the purpose of obtaining/gaining benefits.
- Any sus. payments overseas are under concern from U.S. gov.
Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (2009)
HITECH
- Anyone withholding personal health records must notify people if their personal health records have been disclosed to any unauthorized person(s).
Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (1996)
HIPAA
- Ensures people who leave/lose jobs can obtain health coverage even if family has serious illness or is preg.
- Serious privacy requirements - employee authorization for release of health into (HIPAA form).
Immigration and Nationality Act (1952)
INA
- Foundation in which all other immigration laws were built.
- Addresses employment eligibility and employment verification + temp & perm employment of aliens.

Immigrant Reform & Control Act (1986)
IRCA
- Requires new employees to prove their identity/rights to work.
- Creation of I-9.
- Prohibits discrimination based on N.O. & citizenship.
IRS Immediate Sanctions (2002)
- Guidelines for determining if execs. of non-profits are getting reasonable compensation.
- IRS can put penalties if they think there is too excessive comp.

- Protects people in unions from corruption/discriminatory labor problems.
- Can have secret elections that are reviewed by DOL and those elected must be in good faith.
Mine Safety & Health Act (1977)
MSHA
- Brought all mining ops under the same jurisdiction in DOL.
- Regulations & safety procedures not altered, just carried into new agency.
National Industrial Recovery Act (1933)
NIRA

- Every business has to identify with a trade association.
- Required to write a code of fair competition.
- If unfollowed, license could be suspended.
- Formed the NLRA

National Labor Relations Act (The Wagner Act) (1935)

NLRA
- OG of all labor relation laws.
- Provides rights of workers to organize into unions for collective bargaining.
- Employers need to bargain in good faith.
- Unions represent all members equally, without favoritism.
- Covers non-management employees in private sector who are not covered by Railway Labor Act.
National Labor Relations Board
REGULATES ALL UNIONS
- Right to organize and join unions + other concerted activities.
- Protects concerted activities (when 2+ employees come together to discuss satisfaction w their work).
Needlestick Safety & Prevention Act (2000)
NSPA
- Modifies OSHA in regards to medical.
- “Sharps” - needle regulations and how they are disposed.
- Injuries w sharps must be recorded on OSHA-300 form w privacy case listed and NO employee name.
Norris La-Guardia Act (1932)
- Prohibits “yellow-dog” contracts.
- YD: you have to agree not to be in a union to be hired.
- Also prohibits courts from issuing injunctions against peaceful strikes.
