TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
An activity performed by the police to gather information relative to an accident. The act of determining what happened and who and what was involve in the traffic accident, usually at the scene of the accident.
Traffic Accident Investigation
refers to the movement of persons, goods, or vehicle, either powered by combustion system or animal draw, from one place to another for the purpose of travel.
Traffic
is that occurrence in a sequence of events which usually produces unintended injury, death, or property damage.

Non-Motor vehicle traffic accident
is any motor vehicle accident where there is no fatal or injury to any person but only damage to the motor vehicle or to other property including injury to animals.
Property Damage Accident
any motor vehicle accident that results in injuries other than fatal to one or more persons.
Non-Fatal Injury Accident
any motor vehicle accidents that result death to one or more persons
Fatal Accident
is seeing, feeling, or hearing and understanding the usual or unexpected movement or condition that could be taken as a sign of the accident about to happen
Perception of hazard
is the first action taken by traffic unit to escape from a collision course or otherwise avoid a hazard.
Start of evasive action
is a first accidental touching of an object collision course or otherwise avoid a hazard.
Initial Contact
is greatest collapse or overlap in a collision. The force between the traffic unit and the object collided with are the greatest at
Maximum Engagement
is separation of a traffic unit in motion from an object with which it has collided. Force between the object ceases at this time.
Disengagement
is coming to rest. It usually destabilizes the accident situation.
Stopping
is coming to rest. It usually destabilizes the accident situation.
