Define a victim
A person against whom an offence has been committed.
A person whom by means by or through an offence being committed has suffered injury, loss or damage to property.
A parent or legal guardian of a child or young person whom an offence has been committed against or by means or though an offence being committed as suffered injury, loss or damage to property. Unless the legal guardian or parent is the offender.
An immediate family member of a person who as a result of offence being committed has die or is incapable. Unless the immediate family member is the offender.
Can a person who has attempted suicide be referred to victims rights?
No
What does Section 7 of the Victims Rights Act 2002 refer to?
Treatment - Courtesy, compassion and respect.
What does Section 8 of the Victims Rights Act 2002 refer to?
Access to services - victim or family of victim should have access to medical, counselling, legal, welfare.
What does Section 11 of the Victims Rights Act 2002 refer to?
Informing of services available - Rape crisis, Victims Support (as soon as possible).
What does Section 12 of the Victims Rights Act 2002 refer to?
Supplying Information - on the judicial proceedings and the victims part in it too.
What does Section 29 of the Victims Rights Act 2002 refer to?
The Victim Notification Register - a list of offences that determine whether the victim can join the VRN.
What does Section 51 of the Victims Rights Act 2002 refer to?
The return of property held as evidence - returning the property as soon as possible after it is no longer needed for the judicial proceedings and any appeals.
